The Draft Bloxham Neighbourhood Plan has now been approved by the independent Inspector and subsequently by Cherwell District Council, as a suitable basis for managing development in the village.
It will now proceed to the final stage of the approval process - a referendum of residents of the village on 27 August 2026, when all those entitled to vote in Bloxham can express their approval or otherwise in a simple yes/no vote.
A vote to approve the Plan will give the village an important say in development within the village in the years to come. This will include:
1. A village development boundary outside of which new building cannot be undertaken;
2. Control over the location of new development and the mix of property to be built - starter homes, bungalows, social housing;
3. Support for our Conservation Area and green spaces; and
4. A say over our village infrastructure needs.
You may not agree with all aspects of the draft Neighbourhood Plan that the Parish Council has developed, with input from many residents, Cherwell District Council and other external bodies.
In particular, you may have a view that there is already too much housing development approved for the village.
The Parish Council understands this view, however, once the Plan has been approved at Referendum, it protects the village from further speculative developments and after much consideration, a site behind Courtington Lane was selected.
But to be clear, no planning application has been submitted or approved for the site and if an application is submitted, it would still have to go through the full planning process at Cherwell District Council.
By choosing to approve the draft Neighbourhood Plan, you take a vital step towards stopping additional, uncontrolled development and ensuring that the residents of Bloxham once more, have a place in the discussion about the future of our village.
Please support your village and your Parish Council by voting to approve on 27 August 2026.
