Stop Bloxham Flooding

A new community website has been launched to bring together information about flood risk in Bloxham and the work being undertaken to make the village more resilient to future flooding.

The Stop Bloxham Flooding website has been developed following the serious flooding experienced in the village, including during Storm Bert in November 2024.
Its central message is deliberately straightforward:
“Keep drains clear. Slow the flow.”
The website explains that reducing flood risk in Bloxham requires action both within the village and across the surrounding countryside.
For rain falling on Bloxham, the priority is helping water drain away effectively by keeping drains, gullies and watercourses working properly.
For rain falling outside Bloxham, the focus is increasingly on Natural Flood Management (NFM) – working with farmers and landowners to slow, spread and temporarily store water before it reaches the village.
The website provides information about current flood-reduction projects, the work being undertaken to investigate Natural Flood Management opportunities around Bloxham, and practical steps residents can take themselves.
It also provides access to flood warnings, the Environment Agency's Bloxham Brook river gauge, reporting services, emergency contacts, the Oxfordshire Flood Toolkit, photographs and video from previous flooding, and a dedicated section for farmers and landowners covering potential measures and sources of funding.
The work involves collaboration between Bloxham Parish Council's Flooding Working Group, residents, farmers and landowners and a range of external organisations and advisers, including Oxfordshire County Council, Cherwell District Council, the Environment Agency, Thames21, BBOWT and the North East Cotswolds Farmer Cluster.
The group stresses that no single project can remove the risk of flooding altogether. Instead, the objective is to identify and implement a combination of practical measures which, collectively, can reduce the amount and speed of water reaching vulnerable parts of the village.
The new website will also provide a central place where residents can follow progress as projects develop.
Residents are encouraged to visit the site, learn more about where Bloxham's flood water comes from, and find out what they can do to help.

The Flooding Working Group also welcomes engagement from farmers and landowners around Bloxham who may be interested in Natural Flood Management opportunities on their land.
